I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.

I am asked – and I’m speaking to young Canada now – are there rewards in public life? There are – not monetary but there is a tremendous satisfaction in being able to say I tried, I stood.

That one never asks a question unless he knows the answer is basic to parliamentary questioning.

We shall be Canadians first foremost and always and our policies will be decided in Canada and not dictated by any other country.

A question which can be answered without prejudice to the government is not a fit question to ask.
